About Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary Trek

Located in the Yumthang Valley of the ever-so beautiful state of Sikkim, Singba Rhodendron Sanctuary is like a double bonanza for the nature lovers as well as the adventurists. The sanctuary is spread in an area of 43sq.km and its altitude ranges between 3048-4575 meters above sea level. Home to a variety of flowering plants including, of course the Rhododendron, the sanctuary makes an excellent trek in India. Although, the abundance of Rhododendron is what makes this sanctuary quite attractive, there are also other features like the Yumthang River that flows through the reserve, the alpine meadows and the existence of variety of birds that add more charm to the reserve. Trekking to Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary would mean lingering in one part of the paradise. The trek would be useful enough for those taking keen interest in wildlife and the sanctified beauty of nature. Beginning from Lachung Village in North Sikkim, this trek would involve passing by waterfalls, cardamom plantations, tropical forests and walking alongside the Yumthang River, glimpses of majestic Mt. Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary is situated in the Yumthang Valley, which sprawls in north of Lachung in North Sikkim. The sanctuary is spread in an area of 43 sq. km and has the elevation between 3048 and 4575 meters. It is famed for its variety of Rhododendron flowers along with flowering plants of other species as well. Rare wildlife species of animals are likely to be spotted during the trek to Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary and the view of Mt. Kanchenjunga is a bonus for the trekkers.

How to Reach Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary Trek?

By Jeep or Taxi : Reach here in 2 hours from Gangtok using shared or private jeeps.
By Train :The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
By Plane : The nearest airport is in Bagdogra, 12 km west of Siliguri.

Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

Day 01: Bagdogra - Gangtok
On arrival at Bagdogra airport, you will be met by our representative who will assist you further to Sikkim's capital Gangtok. After arrival in Gangtok, check-in to the hotel, evening will be free for sightseeing. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 02: Gangtok – Lachung Village
After breakfast, we will drive to Lachung village and shall pass by waterfalls, cardamom plantations, deep tropical forests and little village home gardens. Lachung is a beautiful village surrounded by snow-clad peaks with the Lachung River flowing through it. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 03: Lachung Village – Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary
Today, post breakfast, we shall start our trek towards the famous Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary. We will pass by Rhododendron Arboruem that blossom in pink, white and red colour. The sanctuary features a large number of blooming flowers apart from the Rhododendron. Purple-lilac blooms, blue-lilac, pink-purple blooms are some of the most eye-catching ones. As we will climb higher, we will be able to witness scented foliage and on reaching our camping area called Yumthang, we shall be able to spot Dwarf Pottentillas and Purple Primulas flowers. At Yumthang, there is hot springs with a bathing hut constructed over the 2 pools of sulphur-infused water. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 04: Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary
Extra day to explore Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary.
Day 05: Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary – Lachung Village
Post breakfast today, we shall trek back to Lachung; afternoon will be free to explore the place. Overnight stay in guesthouse.
Day 06: Lachung Village – Lachen - Thangu
Our trek today will be to Lachen and then onto the alpine meadows of Thangu, which is a village on Indo-Tibet border and is covered with rhododendrons. Above the village, we shall trek to the alpine desert and will be able to take in spectacular views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and entire valley of Dwarf Rhododendrons. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 07: Thangu – Lachen - Darjeeling
After the breakfast, we shall head back down to Lachen and post lunch, we will drive to Darjeeling. On arrival at Darjeeling, check-in to the hotel, evening will be free to explore. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 08: Darjeeling
Early in the morning, we shall go to see the sun rise from Tiger Hill. From here the view of Mt. Kanchenjunga is simply beautiful. After watching the sunrise, we shall visit the famous Ghoom monastery. We shall then proceed to the hotel to enjoy some delicious breakfast followed by taken back day sightseeing in Darjeeling to the Gurkha memorial, Darjeeling toy railway, Darjeeling zoo, the Peace Pagoda and other important sites. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 09: Darjeeling – Bagdogra Drop
After breakfast, we shall reach the Bagdogra Airport to catch a flight for onward destination.
