About Dodital Yamunotri Trek

Dodital remains swarmed by the devotees from all around the India. It is nature's treasure house and hence is frequented by fervent nature admirers and adventure enthusiasts as well. The oak, deodar, rhododendron and pine forests around the Dodital Lake are filled with exquisite wilderness. This lake and forests offer a perfect platform for various recreational and adventure activities such as trekking, bird watching, nature walk, angling and boating.
Dodital Lake
It is an ideal trek for novice trekkers. Passing through Darwa Top, it is a two-day trek to Hanuman Chatti from Dodital. Darwa Top bestows the tourists the spellbinding vistas of majestic Garhwal Himalayas. The trek then incorporates a one-day trail to Yamunotri. Yamunotri is the originating point of holy Yamuna River. It is located at an elevation of about 10800 feet. A trail of around 1,000 meters from Yamunotri takes the tourists to the original source of Yamuna River. The major attraction of Dodital-Yamunotri Trek is the Yamunotri Temple. During this trek, one can also visit Ruinsara Lake. Summer season is the peak time to undertake this sanctified and enthralling trek.

Best Time to Visit

Best time to travel to Dodital Yamunotri Trek is in summers (Mid April – June) and Post Monsoon (September – October).

Where is the Dodital Yamunotri Trek ?

Dodital Yamunotri Trek commences from the North region of Uttarkashi, a district in Uttrakhand. The main highlight of the trek is the high altitude lake, Dodital, which is surrounded by oak, pine, deodar and rhododendrons trees. One can see the traces of Dodital in my mythological books, thus, here one can see many pilgrimages around. According to some stories, Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode. Apart from the lake, here one can see temple devoted to Lord Ganesh. Since the lake is located at a height of 3024 metres, from here one can see the view of many neighbouring mountains.

How to Reach?

By Airways: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, 160 km from Uttarkashi, is the nearest airport. Taxi and cars are easily available from the airport to reach Uttarkashi.
By Railways: Rishikesh Railway Station, situated at the distance of 143 km is the nearest rail station.
By Roadways: The Government well maintains roads leading to Uttarkashi. Buses and taxi (Government and Private Owned) are readily available from the nearby towns like Rishikesh (187 km), Dehradun (144 km), Chamba (106 km), Tehri (117 km) and Barkot (78.8 km).


Dodital Yamunotri Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

Day 01: Delhi – Haridwar - Rishikesh
In the morning transfer to Delhi railway station and take an AC train for Haridwar at 06:50 hrs. After arriving in Haridwar meet our guide and transfer to Rishikesh, check into your hotel. Evening time is free for leisure activities. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 02: Rishikesh - Uttarkashi (1550 meters)
After breakfast, en route on a 5 to 6-hour drive to Uttarkashi. On arrival in Uttarkashi, you will be transferred to a hotel. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi hotel.
Day 03: Uttarkashi – Sangamchatti - Bevra (2400 meters, 4/5 hours)
Post breakfast, start trekking towards Bevra, along the water streams of Assiganga, till Sangamchatti. Further, climb hill for 7 km by passing through the deciduous forests to reach Agoda Village. Bevra is just 1.5 kms from Agoda. Overnight camp Bevra.
Day 04: Bevra – Manjhi - Dodital (3310 meters, 6/7 hrs)
Enjoy an early morning breakfast and start trekking towards Dodital, a high altitude lake. Magnificent view of snow capped peaks will accompany you throughout the journey.
Day 05: Dodital – Darwa top – Sema (14 Kms Trek, 8 hours)
After breakfast we will trek 5 kms up to reach Darwa top, Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Bandarpunch (Monkey Tail) Mountain and Gangotri Region, after spending some time here we will walk gradually 9 kms till reach towards Sema Meadows. Dinner and Overnight stay at Camps.
Day 06: Sema – Hanuman Chatti (9 kms trek)
In the morning after breakfast we will start our trek towards Hanuman Chatti through dense forest and local villages. In the late afternoon check into the guest house. Overnight at guest house.
Day 07: Hanuman Chatti – Yamunotri – Barkot (10 Kms Trek both side, 55 kms drive)
Morning after breakfast check out from the guest house and drive towards Janki Chatti, On arrival at Janki Chatti, we will start our 5 kms trek towards Yamunotri, On arrival at Yamunotri do worship at Temple and back trek towards Janki Chatti and drive towards Barkot. On arrival at Barkot check into the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08: Barkot – Haridwar - Delhi
Wake up early morning and transfer to Haridwar, from here catch AC train for Delhi at 06:10 hrs. Arrival at Delhi by 11:45 hrs.
